After reading, give each child a piece of paper with one line: “Rain on the ______.” They fill in a color and object, then draw it. Compile into a class book titled Rain on Our World .
Donald Crews uses bold, saturated colors against white space. Rain is shown as solid white diagonal lines. The simplicity allows very young children to “read” the pictures independently. Typography changes size and angle to mimic the rain’s intensity.
