For many, the name represents a story of forced displacement, resilience, and survival. For poet Kevin Gilbert (1933–1993), a proud Wiradjuri man and a pivotal figure in the Aboriginal land rights movement, Oombulgurri became a symbol of the devastating impact of colonialism.
