Long ago, in a village in Mexico, there lived a woman named Maria. She was known throughout the land for her stunning beauty. A wealthy rancher fell deeply in love with her, and they married. They had two beautiful children, and for a while, they were a happy family.

When she arrived at the gates of heaven, God stopped her. “Where are your children?” he asked. Maria wept. God said, “You cannot enter until you have found them.”

If you hear her cry from a distance, she is close by. But if you hear her right next to your window… she is far away. Parents tell their children to go to sleep early, warning them: Don’t go out at night. La Llorona is looking for her children, and she might mistake you for one of her own.

The moment the water went still, horror flooded her heart. She had killed the only things she truly loved. She ran into the river, screaming for them, but it was too late. They were gone.
