I am K93n Na1 , she realized. I am Kansai. I am Chiharu. And I am 29 years old.

A single tear slid down Chiharu’s cheek and splashed onto the spacebar. She didn't wipe it away.

The screen responded with a single word, green and steady as a heartbeat:

The cursor blinked.

She whispered it aloud in the humming dark. “I am K93n Na1. Kansai. Chiharu. 29.”

Chiharu leaned forward, her fingers trembling over the salvaged keyboard. The air smelled of rust and rain leaking through the ceiling. Outside, her small community—forty-seven survivors in an abandoned shopping mall—slept under quilts stitched from cinema curtains.
