The franchise was still recovering from a reputation as the "inferior" football game to Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). This paper argues that FIFA 07 was not a masterpiece, but rather a crucial stepping stone. It introduced fundamental mechanics that prioritized midfield control and tactical awareness, directly challenging PES’s dominance and laying the groundwork for the "modern" FIFA era. FIFA 2007
